Hello!

I am Tom Becker ’77, your new TSDAA President 2007-2008.

Let me give you my biography. I was born in Temple in February 1957. I came to TSD in the fall of 1963 as a new kid after my two Deaf sisters. Barbara, ’72 and Julia, ’74 attended TSD, and then I graduated from TSD in 1977. Then I went to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) in New York until 1981. My major was electronical/mechanical technology and later. I came home without finishing my degree. That is another long story but I got my job in the metrology dept (Calibrating the military equipments) at Fort Hood. I met Kathryn Menchu through Barbara, who used worked for her father at his canine lab (making the medicine for dogs). We got married in 1985 and had our son, Benji in 1988 and now he is a senior this year. I am still working in Fort Hood for over 25 years.

I will do my best to serve TSDAA and the TSD folks as I can. So will do the newest officers and 3 board members. You may find them in somewhere in this Flashback issue and recently ago I named Franna Camenisch as Archive/Museum chairperson, Kathryn Becker as Flashback Editor, Sandra Smith as Website Master, and Cathy Simerka as Membership recruiter.

My first goals are to get the TSD History books ready as soon as possible, enhance TSDAA’s website better, improve TSDAA’s images and investments to better provide for TSD Scholarships, the museum and to result in your happiest SMILES.

Remember John F. Kennedy, our U.S. 44th President, gave us his famous quote in his speech during the 1960’s “Don’t ask your country what it can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.” I would like to use the same idea with TSDAA!!

Please, Please, Please Help Us! OK For example, I need some volunteers like the chairpersons of the Hall of Fame (HOF) and the Emily Lewis Statue Project and Event coordinator and others.

If you are interested to volunteer any or have any questions, comments or discussion to enhance TSDAA’s image, please contact me by E-mailing me at TAB77TSDAA@yahoo.com. Included with your first and last name/TSDAA on the subject line, as you know I have to delete any suspected scam or virus mails and please don’t email me others topics except for TSDAA business only. Thanks for understanding.

TSDAAly yours,
Tom Becker ‘77
President 2007-2008
